Buckle up friends, The Last of Us Part II Release Date has been confirmed. February 21st, 2020. May 29th, 2020.
UPDATE: The Last of Us Part II’s original release date was Feb. 21st, 2020. It was later delayed via a blog post from developer Naughty Dog. The article has been updated to reflect the new release date.
Sony Playstation has just had it’s State of Play event and showcased a new trailer for the anticipated sequel.
The trailer shows Ellie at a camp with friend Dina. They head out on a scavenge and get separated. Ellie goes searching, but is ambushed.
A gunshot is heard during a fade-to-black as Ellie screams.
The motion-capture and facial expressions are top-notch. The reactions from enemies being shot or stabbed is animated and hyper realistic.
What Are You Doing Here?
Towards the end of the trailer Ellie gets grabbed from behind. After a little resisting, and without seeing who it is, she already knows.
Joel is back!
If you’ve played The Last of Us, a wave of emotions should flood over you at this point. What Ellie and Joel have been through in the first game, and them reconnecting is a major moment.
How they became separated is yet to be known.
The Last of Us Part II Release Date
We are expecting Sony to release the Playstation 5 some time during the 2020 Holidays. The Last of Us Part II would have been a shoe-in release title for the new console, but perhaps Sony wanted to give this game it’s own time to shine.
This makes me wonder if they will release an upgraded version specifically for the Playstation 5. Or perhaps the PS4 version will simply be compatible with the PS5, to take advantage of the extra power. The trailer footage was shown on a PS4 Pro.
In any case, all other titles should steer clear of this date — lest they be overshadowed by the massive event.
This game will likely be the clear front-runner for Game of the Year 2020. Cyberpunk 2077 — the other notable contender — releases later in April of that year.
