There have been two entries so far in Yu Suzuki’s Shenmue series. Shenmue 3 is the direct continuation. Read on have the Shenmue 3 Ending Explained.
The start of Shenmue 3 has Ryo Hazuki and Shenhua embarking on their journey through Bailu village to find Shenhua’s missing father, Mr. Yuan.
Searching for clues in that quiet village the couple to discover the trail of some thugs. These thugs have been tracking down and roughing up the local stonemasons. Mr. Yuan was among them.
Their search leads Ryo and Shenhua to the city of Niaowu. More investigation leads to the discovery that the thugs are from a gang called the Red Snakes.
Ryo faces off with the nameless thug boss but is defeated. He needs to learn more kung-fu techniques in order to defeat him.
He eventually beats the thug boss, who reveals that Mr. Yuan has been taken across the river to the Old Castle. Ryo secures transportation to cross the river.
On his way back to Hotel Niaowu, he has discovered that Shenhua has been kidnapped. Ryo sets out to reach the Old Castle where she was taken.
On the morning of his disembarkment, all of the characters that he has encountered in Niaowu assemble and join him in his rescue efforts.
The Old Castle & Lan Di — Shenmue 3 Ending
Ryo Hazuki arrives at the Old Castle island, and finds Mr. Yuan. Progressing further he was also able to find Shenhua. However, Ryo had to give up the Phoenix Mirror in exchange for Shenhua’s safe release.
Shenhua and Mr. Yuan escape the Old Castle to safety, but Ryo remains. Ryo Hazuki discovers this his father’s killer — Lan Di, is present on the island.
Determined to avenge his father, Ryo charges the steps of the Old Castle to meet Lan Di.
The entire Castle is set on fire, and the final battle commences. Lan Di is able to block all of Ryo’s attacks with ease.
Ryo is overwhelmed. Before Lan Di prepares to finish him off, Ren steps in and offers a fake Phoenix Mirror replica he had been holding onto.
Lan Di lets him go, and Ren tosses the fake Phoenix Mirror out a window, while the fires rage around them. Ryo and Ren escape the situation. The entire group return to Niaowu.
The Phoenix & Dragon Mirrors — Shenmue 3 Ending
Ryo, Ren, Shenhua, and Mr. Yuan are seen departing Niaowu on a large boat. The rest of the friends Ryo has made during his stay in Niaowu are seen staying behind, waving goodbye.
Ryo shows the picture he found to Mr. Yuan. It is of Zhao Sunming and Ryo’s father.
Yuan explains that the Dragon Mirror and Phoenix Mirror were once locked away in the Cliff temple. The group called the Chi You Men were after the mirrors.
So it was then that Zhao Sunming was entrusted to safeguard the mirrors. But under mysterious circumstances, he later died.
Zhao Sunming had a son, Longsun who was raised by the Chi You Men. And here is when Mr. Yuan revealed that Zhao Longsun is Lan Di.
Mr. Yuan finishes his testimony by saying that the Cliff Temple has been taken over by the Chi You Men. And that is were Lan Di is likely hiding.
In the closing shot, Ryo, Shenhua, and Ren are seeing walking on a rocky path — presumably to the Cliff Temple.

As of now, it is still early since the release so we don’t have any information on Shenmue 4. Hopefully we will be hearing more from it sooner than later.
There is still post-launch DLC scheduled for the game, but there is no information on what it contains beside a skillbook scroll. Check back here for information on it once it releases.
