Welcome to Vinyl City! Check out the No Straight Roads Trailer – a new music-based action-adventure game from the malaysian game studio, Metronomik.
Fight the massive EDM empire as an indie rock band in our unique PC & PS4 action game! Directed by Wan Hazmer, lead game designer of Final Fantasy XV, and Daim Dziauddin, concept artist of Street Fighter V, No Straight Roads was made with the intention of elevating the role of audio in game design without turning it into a rhythm game, and using strong visuals to tell a story of music cultures and ideals.
Even though No Straight Roads is a music-based game, it’s unique in that it doesn’t rely on rhythm as most other music-based games do. You play as Mayday and Zuke, who are both together in an indie rock band. They live in Vinyl City (in the sewers, by the way), which is home to the evil mega-corporation known as ‘No Straight Roads’ (NSR). Why are they evil? I dunno (thinking face emoji). Maybe because they don’t allow any other music to permeate the airwaves besides EDM. Doesn’t sound too bad to me.
No Straight Roads Trailer – Impressions
The small bit of gameplay shown in the trailer looks good, but we’re gonna need to see more. I checked the developer’s site and found a bit more gameplay. The world looks beautiful, though. The gameplay is described as action-adventure, similar to Devil May Cry or Kingdom Hearts. And although it’s not a rhythm game, if you pay attention to the beat of the music, you might be able to gain the advantage during enemy battles.
The background music is supposed to shift between rock and EDM as you play. You can also transform environmental props into weapons via music. The studio wants to express the motivations of being an artist as well as the music culture through the visual story-telling. It is coming to both PS4 and PC. Experience the music and No Straights Roads sometime in Spring 2019. Stay tuned for more info!
