The Sinking City Trophy Guide – Roadmap

Disclaimer: This The Sinking City Trophy Guide and Roadmap is provided free of charge (meaning it doesn’t cost you anything).  It is incumbent upon you, to ensure that you’ve done your proper due diligence in researching, verifying, and preparing your own playthroughs.  I am not responsible for any loss of time, how regretful and unintentional that may be.  The information provided in this guide aims to be as accurate as possible, but could contain errors (please notify me of them).  If you accept this — read on.

Briefing

The Platinum for this game is quite easy to get.  Also, there are no collectibles.  However, the game has a lot of missable trophies, and there are only 3 manual save slots.

I cannot stress how important it is to make a proper game save backup.  Back up your game saves locally to an external hard drive, or online (in the cloud).  If you miss a trophy unlock opportunity, you’ll have to replay the game entirely over.  Remember that in addition to the manual saves, there are some autosaves.

Only one playthrough of the game is needed, with some save reloading required for binary decision-related trophies.  As far as I know, your decisions do not exclude you from unlocking later trophies.

Gameplay Tips

  • For the most part, the side missions in the game don’t offer anything substantial except costume unlocks.  They are light on story content, and their primary purpose is for XP gain, so you can unlock more character perks.
  • Infested areas (marked by a red skull icon on the map), are a good way to level up.  You can scavenge for ammo and materials nearby within these area as well.
  • As you play the game, I suggest finding the telephone booths as soon as you can.  This allows you to fast travel, saving a lot of time.  Check the images below for the full map, with the telephone booth locations (light blue icons).  Locate these as soon as possible.

In the trophy table below, sort it by ‘OU’ (order unlocked) by clicking on the OU column header.  This way, you can follow along and make sure you are unlocking them at the right time, and not missing any one.

Keep in mind: this was my particular order of unlocking the trophies.  Yours may vary slightly; please read through the forthcoming trophies to make sure you don’t miss any.

The Sinking City Trophy Guide – Trophies

All Evidence Collected trophyAll Evidence Collected – Complete every challenge the city of Oakmont has to offer.

Unlock all the other trophies.

Tempting Fate trophyTempting Fate – Have your fortune read.

The chance to unlock the first trophy is the first time you enter The Kneel Bar to interrogate the bar owner, during the Frosty Welcome main case.  There will be a fortune-teller here.  Pay her the single bullet to have your fortune read.  If you try to come back another time, either 1) the bar will be locked, or 2) she won’t be here anymore.

Hook, Line, and Sinker trophyHook, Line, and Sinker – Solve your first case in Oakmont.

Not missable.  Complete the first case.

Deep Breath trophyDeep Breath – Go below the surface for the first time.

Story-related – not missable.

The Pleasure of Finding Things Out trophyThe Pleasure of Finding Things Out – Use the intelligence archives in your investigation.

Not missable.  You’ll unlock this from your first evidence which requires the intelligence archives.  This should be at the Oakmont Chronicle archive.  Once at the archives, select the clue ‘Burned newspapers’, and the proper criteria.  Section: Advertisements, People: Commoners, and finally District: Grimhaven Bay.

Reanimator trophyReanimator – Satisfy curiosity.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Quid Pro Quo.  After the investigation at the Fish Depot, Charles Reed will need to go to the [University] to analyze the substance.  After talking to the desk receptionist, head down into the basement.  There will be a large monster here that was part of a lab experiment.

Following the wires attached to it, you can find a large red button.  This will provide electricity to the monster.  Press it once, and then once more to animate it.

Brutal Honesty trophyBrutal Honesty – Betray the warehouse guard’s trust.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Quid Pro Quo.  After meeting with Anna Cavendish at the Fish Market, go to the EOD Fish Depot building she spoke of.  Charles Reed needs to investigate the theft at that location.  There will be a Innsmouther guard standing in front of that building.

Talk to this guard Daryl Grimes.  He’ll ask Reed to not tell Anna that he was slacking off during the theft.  Agree to his wishes, and then return to Anna at the Fish Market after the investigation.  During your discussion with Anna, she’ll inquire about the guard, and Reed can tell her Grimes was negligent in his duties.

Compliments to the Chef trophyCompliments to the Chef – Help the professor with his plan.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Quid Pro Quo.  To unlock this trophy, you need to choose to help George Cavendish undermine the EOD.  This means you will need to poison the fish supply with the ricin he supplies you.  This trophy won’t unlock until you use the ricin on all the batches of fish.

Use Protection trophyUse Protection – Challenge the horror of the Redemption Church.

A trophy unlocked from the Main Mission: Fathers and Sons.  I don’t think this is missable.  It is the boss fight underwater.

Sic Semper Tyrannis trophySic Semper Tyrannis – Dethrone the patriarch.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Fathers and Sons.  Choose to kill Brutus at the conclusion of this case.  You’ll have to initiate some aggressive dialogue before it’s permissible to shoot Brutus.  Beware that his bodyguards will also attack, so a grenade or molotov works well.

It’s probably a good idea to set some traps at the stairs leading up, since there will be more men on the way out.

Et Tu, Brutus? trophyEt Tu, Brutus? – Punish the upstart.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Fathers and Sons.  Choose to tell Brutus that Graham was behind everything at the conclusion of this case.

It's a Kind of Magic trophyIt’s a Kind of Magic – Ask the Imperial Wizard to show you a magic trick.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Nosedive.  This case will lead you to The Orion Club.  Make your way through this building to the top floors, and you’ll encounter an Imperial Wizard from the Ku Klux Klan.

It’s easy to miss this trophy if you chose a wrong dialogue choice.  Just make sure you ask him to perform a magic trick, and continue with that line of questioning.  Have all your weapons locked and loaded.

Not Too Deep for Me trophyNot Too Deep for Me – Study all the frescoes in the Temple of Dagon.

A trophy from the Main Mission: Nosedive.  I don’t think this one is missable, since you need to examine all the frescoes in order to proceed.

What Could Go Wrong? trophyWhat Could Go Wrong? – Have a ritual conducted on you.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Deal with the Devil.  The trophy opportunity is at the conclusion of this case.  Ebernote will meet you at the Factory.  He’ll ask to conduct the ritual on you.  If you refuse, you will lose the chance to unlock this achievement.

Crime, No Punishment trophyCrime, No Punishment – Kill the old lady.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Self-Defense.  Follow through with the main case by talking to Milton Pierce at City Hall.  He’ll ask you to kill Agatha.

Double Tap trophyDouble Tap – Finally commit the crime you were accused of.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Self-Defense.  At the conclusion of this main case, head back to the Devil’s Reef Hotel to meet Vanderberg.  After finishing your conversation with him in Charles Reed’s hotel room, you have a chance to shoot him here.

The End Justifies the Means trophyThe End Justifies the Means – Kill the priestess.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Fleeing Phoenix.  When given the choice of killing Joseph Hill or Usha the priestess, you should choose to kill Joseph Hill.  You’ll have a chance to kill the priestess when you go meet her underwater to ask her about how to enter Cthygonnaar.

Still Salty trophyStill Salty – Kill the archeologist.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Fleeing Phoenix When given the choice of killing Joseph Hill or Usha the priestess, you should choose to kill Joseph Hill.  This is because you will have an option to kill the priestess later, which will save you time from reloading a save to unlock the other trophy.

Dodge This trophyDodge This – Defeat a little girl without playing fair.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Fleeing Phoenix.  You have to kill Usha the priestess outside of a combat engagement.  I did this by agreeing to kill Joseph Hill.  Afterwards, I went underwater to find Usha to ask about Cthyognnaar.

Don’t make any dialogue choices that would force Charles Reed into battle with the priestess.  After the conversation is over, you can then shoot Usha to unlock this trophy.

Damage Control trophyDamage Control – Prevent the last self-immolation.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Into the Depths.  Charles Reed heads to St. Michael’s Church at the start of this case.  On the 2nd floor, there is a woman that plans on setting herself on fire, in preparation for the Cycle.  You can talk her out of it to unlock this trophy.

I'm Out of Here trophyI’m Out of Here – Leave the city and the world to their fate.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Into the Depths.  This is one of three possible endings in the final area of the game.  To get this specific ending, you’ll have to search one of the end areas (right side, while facing the main door to Cthygonnaar).

The Stars are Right trophyThe Stars are Right – End the Cycle.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Into the Depths.  This is one of three possible endings in the final area of the game.  It’s the main door to Cthygonnaar.

Leap of Faith trophyLeap of Faith – Restart the Cycle.

A missable trophy from the Main Mission: Into the Depths.  This is one of three possible endings in the final area of the game.  To get this specific ending, you’ll have to search one of the end areas (left side which leads to a cliff point, while facing the main door to Cthygonnaar).

First, Do No Harm trophyFirst, Do No Harm – Agree to the experimental treatment.

A missable trophy that can be unlocked during the Main Mission: Lost At Sea.  After the investigation at Pier 3, you’re supposed to find the wounded Sanders.  Head to the Oakmont Hospital.  Talk to the Doctor at the reception desk, and inquire about the experimental treatment.

If you don’t agree to it here, you’ll miss your chance to get it.

Extra! Extra! trophyExtra! Extra! – Give an interview to the local newspaper.

A missable trophy that can be unlocked during the Main Mission: Lost At Sea.  At your first visit to the Oakmont Chronicle, talk to the receptionist.  She’ll request to interview Charles Reed, and ask a few questions.

No Honor Among Thieves trophyNo Honor Among Thieves – Take Sidney’s stash. You monster.

A missable trophy that can be unlocked during the Side Case: A Delicate Matter.

While trying to find the character Squinty, your investigation will lead you to Sidney Stokes home.  Explore his house thoroughly to find his stash.

Family Reunion trophyFamily Reunion – Uphold your agreement with Robert.

A missable trophy that can be unlocked during the Side Case: Through the Looking Glass.   This case is right after side case: A Delicate Matter.  This trophy is unlocked at the conclusion of the case.  Reed needs to kill Bethany and return the mirror.

Both Worlds trophyBoth Worlds – Humor a grieving mother.

A missable trophy that can be unlocked during the Side Case: Through the Looking Glass.  This case is right after side case: A Delicate Matter.  Allow for the mirror to be broken.  The trophy will unlock when you return to report to Throgmorton.

All Sewn Up trophyAll Sewn Up – Banish Granny Weaver.

This trophy is unlocked from the Side Case: Silence is Golden.  This side case open to me during the Main Mission: Deal with the Devil.  After the conclusion of the Main Mission: Nosedive, Charles Reed will receive a letter from Joy, the Librarian.  Go speak with her and solve the side case.
